YOUTH Day, 16 June is the day that honours the deaths of many Soweto schoolchildren, a day in 1976 that changed the course of South Africa’s history.
Edu Snapper Foundation commemorated this day by taking an opportunity to attend one of the Edu Desk event in Makapanstad, a village in the Moretele Local Municipality, falling under Bojanala District Municipality in the North-West province of South Africa.
On this day we could present to almost 15 learners and few young adults, informing about the multitudes of careers that they can venture into in future. Through our participation we could emphasise that career decision making is about aligning your strengths, interest and abilities which need to be identified from early stages of schooling so that one could dedicate their time and effort towards the career they will decide on.
Positive response was received from not only the organisers however also from the local youth communities, and we were asked to come share more insights in the upcoming events. Through honouring invites such as these and on a memorable day as youth day, we more enthusiastic to venture more into our own initiatives to empower other youth so that we remember what the youth of the 1976 fought for and not let it go in vain.
